King Kong? More like King Con.

This movie is utter utter nonsense.

It shows what happens when a Kiwi directs a movie about animals (they don’t have them in NZ). It also shows how many people still have no concept of nature. I realise this is just good yarn, but for crying out load it is supposed to be a gorilla after all. The most ridiculious scenes were the ice-skating scene and the “its beautiful” scenes. All are meant to be serious, but I burst out laughing. This is something I never do because each of us experience movies in different ways, but this was just asking to much.

Naomi Watts had about 1 expression throughout the movie, but she does have nice legs and I now realise that really that is what this movie is entirly about.

Adrian Brody was also very phony. I can’t see how he got the part. Maybe his big nose had more to do with this than we think (nudge nudge).

The only redeeming feature of the movie was Kong’s CGI. But as with Final Fantasy, good CGI isn’t enough to carry a movie.

You can’t expect much more from Hollywood, but I still can’t workout how the press (here in the UK at least) started dishing out 5 stars for this piece of KAK! After browsing the IMDB Forums last night one of the posters compared this to “The Emperor’s New Clothes”. I think this is very apt.

Also found out that there are massive concerns that King Kong is not doing nearly as well as is expected at the Box Office. I’m glad. Hollywood needs to understand that cheap sentimentality and unoriginality don’t translate to profit, even if you use all CGI and money you can muster.

  1. They have hyped this movie sooooo much this week. I listen to my XM radio in the morning on my way to work, and they have the MoviePhone guy giving reviews each morning. This guy MUST be paid by the industry. He was going as far as saying that this could be “THE” best movie ever…. Not having seen the movie myself, I already know that it is a piece of KAK. With all they hype and pure propaganda for it, I can’t see how it can be a serious contender for an Academy Award. Will it be entertaining? I figure it would be, probably as much as Jurasic Park or something in that line, but the BEST EVER! I don’t think so and you just gave me one vote on that!

  2. ok guys- not the best movie EVER, prob a bit too sentimental for that if u focus solely on the storyline..but then it is based on the original and what a great remake; the special effects I thought was simply excellent. if you look at it from a tecnical point, fu**ing well done! in my opinion. that ‘guerilla’ is so realistic, could’ve fooled me 🙂

  3. Well Mr Heunis, just when you thought you got away with your crack at Kiwis! I have no problem with you criticizing King Kong the movie I canÆt comment as I havenÆt even bothered to see it. As a general rule I use the amount of hype a movie receives before being released as an inverse indicator of how good it will be.

But getting back to my point! You Mr Heunis, a person I have always considered knowledgeable (especially on matters of wildlife and its conservation) as well as fair in your treatment of your fellow man, have gone too far this time. New Zealand has a wealth of wildlife, much of it indigenous to the country, with many niches in its complex ecology occupied by unexpected animals families, especially birds and reptiles. All of this I know you know but I just had to put the record straight in public.

    Thanks for the comment.

Yes you’re right. I do apologise. I was pissed off at Peter Jackson after watching this movie and unfortunately he happened to be a Kiwi.

I know that NZ has a fantastic natural kingdom and I have massive respect for New Zealand’s natural vision. In fact New Zealand recently top scored in the global Environmental Performance Index.

Again this was a go at Peter Jackson rather than Kiwis in general.
