Attie Heunis's Journey

The ramblings of a Caucasian African American

  • With the euphoria of the Bulls having just won their semi-final and so reaching the final for the 4th time in as many years, I decided to put up this post.

But it is not just the euphoria that has gone to my head. There is actually some motivation for this statement: The Boys from Pretoria have now won the Currie-Cup, the oldest and arguably best domestic rugby union competition in the world, in 3 consecutive years and they don’t look like stopping this year.

More so, out of the 11 possible IRB World-Player-of-the-Year nominations, the Bulls have got 5!! They are Bryan Habana, Victor Matfield, Mahlatse ‘Chilliboy’ Ralepelle (U19), Thabang Molefe (U21) & Derick Kuun (U21).Canterbury from New Zealand has the 2nd highest presentation with 2 players. No other South African team has any representation.

What is also incredible is that out of these 5 players, 3 are black players. Note: black players, not quota players.

Obviously the 5 players nominated reflects very well on South Africa as well. New Zealand again are 2nd with 4 players.

  • SPOILER!

I have just finished reading the The Half-Blood Prince, the 6th Harry Potter book. I don’t know why, but the critics did not rate this book as highly as the others. I thought it was very good; possibly the best one yet.

I’m glad no-one spoiled the ending for me so I won’t spoil it for you either, but I will say this book got me more involved than the 3 before it did. I was getting slightly bored of Harry Potter & Co.

After this book, though, I’m not bored anymore – now I can’t wait for the next one.

    — UPDATE —

Here is an interesting site to look at AFTER you’ve read the book. I happen to agree wholeheartedly with this site. Don’t open this link or even hover over the link to see where it takes you unless you’ve finished the book.

  • I’ve been slagging off people, including LenT, that own iPods for a while now. My opinion was that they’re much more about fashion than about music. But since I had my first play with a Nano I was interested and today I couldn’t resist any longer.

I hope the ú179-00 I paid for it is worth it. Time will tell, but so far I am mightily impressed.

  • WWF Walk for WildlifeWe have just come back from our Walk for Wildlife sponsored hike. It was a gorgeous day and it was only 5 miles around the Thames and Richmond Park. It is such a beautiful part of London you shouldn’t really need an excuse to do this walk.

Each year the WWF choose an animal as the focus of the hike and this year it was the Orang-Utan from Borneo. A worthey cause indeed. Kudos to the WWF for arranging the Hike.

Also check out the photos of the walk.

  • Have you been interested in an Ipod Nano, but thought that 20GB isn’t enough. Check out how to increase your Nano to 200GB.

  • This news has really got me excited.

Universal Studios have just signed Peter Jackson, from Lord of the Rings fame, to direct the upcoming Halo. Alex Garland, the writer from The Beach is writing the screenplay. I wouldnÆt call myself a hardcore gamer, but I must admit that the first Halo (on Xbox) was one of the best games I have ever played. It was so good that it came close to ruining my marriage!

Anyone who would have donned the Masters ChiefÆs helmet will know that Halo as a movie has the potential to be awesome. But on the flip side, the game has set such high standards that followers are almost inevitably going to be disappointed.

I, for one, am very much looking forward to running with the Master Chief on the big screen. My only real requirement for the movie is the theme music. Without the haunting chanting Halo just wouldnÆt be complete.

  • The Boys at IntellifloWhilst going through a bunch of old photos, I came accross these classics. These are The Boys. They’re a rare breed of genial yet modest software magicians.

The code that these freaks came up with could well have changed the world had they not lost The One. Once The One had left – now nowhere to be found – they lost their direction. Constant in-fighting and drug abuse was the final straw that broke this camel’s back.

The IntelliFo Boys at Nando'sThere are some rumours though that The One is still out there.

    Maybe…?

This post is written with tongue firmly in cheek, so don’t take it too seriously.

  • I’ve just been informed by Telewest, my ISP, that my connection will soon be upgraded from 2MB to 10MB for downloads and from 256KB to 384KB for uploads! The best thing about this is that the upgrade is 100% free.

Is this the time to start thinking about hosting from home?
