It has emerged that the ANC, through its influence, aims to take over Springbok Rugby after this year’s world cup. Rumours are that the Springbok team will be coached by a sub-standard coloured coach (Pieter de Villiers) and will have 10 black/coloured players on the field at all times. Luke Watson is set to be the captain. To put things in perspective there are presently 2 black players (Bryan Habana and Guthro Steenkamp) in the side on merit and Luke Watson (the son of anti-Apartheid activist Cheeky Watson) isn’t even in the top 6 loose-forwards in the country.
I don’t care what your background is or what your political views are, but surely this must raise a red flag to anyone that supports democracy and deplores racism. The rhetoric of these rugby officials is comparable to Hitler in Nazi Germany. I just hope that the senior ANC members see how dangerous these precedents are and stops it. I’m just not sure they know how fundamentally wrong this is. This would be a good way to head for that Banana Republic that Mbeki hates to hear about so much.
The only positive outcome if this disturbing vision would ever realise would be if we saw a breakaway group formed of merit-based (black, white, coloured etc) players/administrators. I’m certain this group would have support from the businesses that matter (Supersport, Vodacom, Fox/Newscorp) and most importantly the viewing/paying public. To my mind this is probably the only thing that can save rugby from a meddling racist government.

Some of expats here in Aus and USA, have been mailing the IRB, FIFA etc for the past few weeks now, keeping them up to date with all the govt racist meddling, informing anyone that will listen… as well as a few timely emails reminding the ANC dept’s of our actions…
I’m sure the big boys in the ANC will start thinking twice when they hear the word FIFA involved…

This doesn’t make it any better of course!

Thx for the comment. I also find it very concerning that many of the culprits who now want to enforce racial selection policies on SA Rugby were part of the ôstruggleö against Apartheid. Did they learn nothing?

It is with great distress and concern that one has to write a letter like this.
The ANC, South Africa’s so called democratic goverment are openly trying to destroy on thing us South Africans can be proud of, the Springbok Rugby Team!
When us South Africans travel the globe people always talk about the Springboks and always gets a good conversation going. Now the ANC want take this away from us.
The Springbok side will have at least 10 black players at all times on the field and the coach must be black. We as South Africans do not mind the colour of the player on the field but to just randomly pick players because of colour is reverse apartheid!
This should not be allowed and should be frowned upon by the International Rugby Community.
If there is anything the IRB can do to push for the transformation in the cright way and to have a player on the field becuase of his God given talent, not becuase of his colour. Please help!

Yeah but only because good people spoke out to stop the cANCer. The did get the idiot boy Peter de Villiers appointed and his own words were that he would select 10 black players in the team. Luckily the IRB had a quiet word with SARFU.
