Laugh it off productions won their highly publicised court case today. This sets a precedent that could be very important for Freedom of Speech in South Africa. Now I don’t know too much about this particular case, but my general take on matters like these is the more Freedom of Speech, the better.
In this light, I’m pretty happy about this result. The “David and Goliath” angle obviously also sweetens this victory.
I guess all that is left now is to get the offending t-shirt.
Today was my last day at NOP World. I am starting a new contract on Monday with Newell & Budge. I will be doing proper consultancy which something I’ve always wanted to do.
Although I am very pleased with the new setup, I will miss the people from Team Prophet. They were a great to work with. Here (from the left) is Adam Heunis (the Author), Tracey McKenzie, Rob Mason, Alastair Catto, Martin Rivierol, Mark Davidson, Simon Gibbs:
I recommend this book without hesitation. The title is slightly confusing though as this book as nothing to do with politics or conspiracy theories (ala Dan Brown).
Amazon’s synopsis is:
The narrator of this story is a boy who leaves California to attend a college in New England. He falls in with a group of students of Ancient Greek. Four of their number work themselves into a trance-like condition one night, and murder a local farmer. Bunny then tries to blackmail the others.
Donna Tart, the author, gives some great insight into what makes language students tick. She (and they) have very romantic ideas about stuff. To make things even worse they study Ancient Greek as well! I think she is a bit of a language snob though, but this doesn’t bother me as most students are snobs of their fields anyway.
I give this book a good 4½ (out of 5).
This is soooo frustrating. I had no backups either and to have this fixed is going to cost me £600+!!
I had my first taste of live Premiership football today when Charlton Athletic hosted Manchester United. We were about 5 rows from the front. We were on TV for a fraction of a second for Wayne Rooney and Alan Smith’s goals.
The photo was taken with my mobile phone so it’s not good, but it does prove we were there! It is Rio Ferdinand and Wes Brown in the shot.
Nothing that good, bat not terrible either. It is a very “English Sci-Fi” feel to it. I don’t know if that makes any sense, but there is none of the “bigness” of US Sci-Fi movies. If you have seen Doctor Who you would know what I mean.
Martin Freeman (from The Office) is OK, but bordering on irritating. Sam Rockwell is very irritating. The Girl is good. The cameos are probably the best thing about it.
I give it a 3 (out of 5), but if you like Doctor Who you’ll love the movie.
My wife and I have just returned from a weekend breakaway to Cornwall. It was a rather important birthday (I dare not say which one!) for her and we decided to get out of London. We didn’t want to go too far or spend too much because we are going on our Mediterranean cruise in less than 3 weeks time. Whoopee!
Before this weekend, all I knew about Cornwall was that it was about the only place in the UK where you could surf. I wasn’t expecting too much, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Newquay reminds me a little of Jeffreys Bay in South Africa. Especially with the focus on surfing. St Ives is a fantastically picturesque village on the sea. I’ll upload some pictures soon. It doesn’t quite have the vibe of Newquay, but it is really gorgeous. Understandably a lot of English painters live in St Ives. The whole place is also full of exclusive art shops.
For surfing; the breaks actually looked really good in Newquay and St Ives. The JBay boys will have a whale of a time here. The quality of surfing was also surprisingly good. I did get some photos, but the light didn’t really play along so they aren’t that good.
Cornwall gets a big “thumbs up” from me. So far this is my favourite county in the UK. I’ll definitely try and visit again – hopefully next time in the summer.

The best rss reader in my opinion is Rss Bandit. It has a very good interface and you can have it running as a minimized service (like MS-Outlook). I use it as my primary blog reader.
Rss Bandit is also Sourceforge.net project.
